Top 10 Dade Records

Dade Records is a foundational label in the Soul Music category. From its incorporation in the middle 1950’s, founder Henry Stone cut sides for it everywhere from Bobby Dukoff’s supermarket freezer turned studio, to the earliest version of Criteria (now The Hit Factory). While the shallow waters of doo-wop receded, the listening public demanded a music full of raw feeling and emotion. Soul was political, sad, angry, joyous, full of stories, and rhythm, and could make you dance, cry, or scream all the way to or from the record store as you sang what was on the radio. Henry Stone knew it from the sound of the people on the streets, in the clubs, and in the broadcast booth, and he helped bring that feeling’s magnetic resonance from Miami to the world.
