Cash Box Magazine 1957
Henry Stone used to know DJ Eddie “Castlerock” Castleberry. He was a disc jockey at WMBM, which had a substation with a big street-facing window in the heart of Overtown. In the 1950’s, artists like Bullmoose Jackson, Wynonie Harris, and Little Willie John were regular guests on WMBM. Check out this short writeup in Cash Box magazine with a photo of The Drifters visiting the studio in 1957.
“MIAMI, FLA.-When The Drifters, Atlantic Record stars, moved into station WMBM, this city, for a visit, they really took over. They handled deejay Eddie ( Castlerock) Castleberry’s entire two hour show-giving the local radio fans a fine time. The Drifters are seen above with Castleberry at the extreme right answering the phone. Jimmy Oliver, musical director of the group is at the turntable with the ear phones.”
