“((Phone rings – “Call from Universal Music”))
See that’s pretty heavy, that was Barry Weiss. He’s the president or CEO of Universal Music. Number one company in the world. Callin me to say he’s gonna call me over the weekend. The biggest. The top in the record industry. Can’t get any higher. He’s way up there man. Big time. Barry Weiss. He’s Hymie’s son. Hymie Weiss from Old Town Records.
Hymie Weiss. He was quite a guy. You hadda be around him.
I remember one time we were at a convention at the Fontainebleau and Hymie didn’t register.
Some schmuck comes up to him while we’re all on the balcony on a high floor. Bunch of guys from the music biddness talkin shop. Talkin records.
Guy comes up to Hymie and says, “If you don’t register, I have to ask you to leave.”
Hymie grabs him by the neck and holds him over the balcony and says, “Register? Yeah sure. I’ll meet ya in the lobby. I’ll drop you off before I leave.”
