1955 was a great year for Henry Stone. His joint venture with Syd Nathan in the DeLuxe label produced the first crossover single under the King Records umbrella; a million seller at that. “Hearts Of Stone” broke one radio station at a time as Henry drove across the country getting his records played with steak dinners, booze on ice, and cold hard cash. As Stone always said, “The record business is all done by people. You gotta spend a buck to make a buck. You can’t have it all.” Check out this January 1955 page from Cash Box Magazine, the contemporary trade of the coin operated amusement industry (jukeboxes, pinball, bar games, cigarette machines). They were one of the prominent music charting publications. And Henry Stone’s DeLuxe label group The Charms topped the list of Hot Shots with their “Ling Ting Tong,” and “Hearts of Stone.”
