The 31st of February album, produced by Alaimo & Shapiro, yielded one of Florida’s greatest rock gems, “Sandcastles.” “Sandcastles” was an incredible, haunting masterpiece filled with the sound of seagulls, surf and a hypnotic organ riff. During the sessions, the trio utilized the great talents of south Florida musicians Benny Latimore and Bobby Puccetti on organ.

Butch Trucks, Jr. became the drummer for the legendary Allman Brothers Band. Charles Scott Boyer formed the band Cowboy. David Brown went on to join Boz Scaggs.

Boyer, Brown and Trucks, Jr., who are, without a doubt, master musicians from Florida’s “Sandcastle Land” have appeared on countless recordings by various artists.

The Last Words are four young men, consisting of Johnny Lombardo (lead singer, tambourine player), Mike Byrnes (lead guitar), Rick Cook (Drums), Steve “Schroeder” Sechak (organ). These four men started their career together in New York. Two of the band members are from New York and two are from Jersey City. They moved to Florida where they recorded their debut album.

The impact that The Last Words made on the pop scene was with their first recording, “Can’t Stop Loving You.” The excitement and impact that this had lead to the release of the debut album titled The Last Words. The sounds they produce, although showing influences of The Cream and Vanilla Fudge, are strictly their own.

The Last Words stand out with the most original and inventive young groups of the day with their great musicianship and unusual arrangements. Although all the members compose, most of the unusual arrangements are created by Byrnes and Sechak.

This project was produced by Brad Shapiro and Steve Alaimo under the supervision of the well-known Henry Stone. The recording engineers on the project were Bobby Dukoff and Larry Fisher.

Becen Padron met Henry Stone in the summer of 1970 and was signed to Stone’s label shortly thereafter. Becen’s group appeared as one of the opening acts at the James Brown concert in the summer of 1970 at the Miami Jai Alai Fronton. Becen was thrilled to have a personal introduction by Stone to James Brown, who is one of Becen’s all-time musical heroes.

Becen toured from 1970 to 1975, performing with artists such as: Black Sabbath with Ozzie Osbourne, Phil Collins, Ted Nugent, Little Beaver, Billy Preston and Badfinger (of the Beatles fame), Iron Butterfly, The Allman Brothers, Genesis, Buddy Miles (of Jimi Hendrix fame), Peter Frampton, The Bee Gees, Ike and Tina Turner, Alan King, The Eagles, Average White Band, Jaco Pastorious (the world’s greatest bass player), Graham Nash (of Crosby, Stills and Nash fame), Freddie King, and Chaka Khan.

Upon his return to Miami in the summer of 1975, Becen presented a fresh project to Henry Stone. At this point in time, Stone was dominating the music scene with the Miami sound and the up and coming Disco revolution. It was Stone’s impetuous appetite for new music and sounds that encouraged the work on Becens’s album. After the album was complete and mixed, Stone decided that the sound was a little ahead of its time and should wait a while before releasing the album.

The completed album was shelved and over time it seemed to have fallen through the cracks until Stone rediscovered the album thirty-two years later, came to the rescue and decided to release the album in its original form.

Mercy is made up of Jack Sigler, Jr. (guitar and vocals), Brenda McNish (piano and vocals), Debbie Lewis (organ and vocals), Jamie Marvell (12 string rhythm guitar and vocals), Buddy Goods (bass guitar and vocals), Rodger Fuentes (drums), and Ronnie Caudill (lead guitar).

Jack Sigler, Jr., who is from Tampa, Florida, decided to form his own group, so Mercy was born and the rebels from Brandon High start gigging at local dances, making good sounds.

A producer from Hollywood, a friend of Jack Sigler’s dad, heard the group and decided to use Jack Sigler, Jr.’s original song called “Love Can Make You Happy” for the film “Fireball Jungle.” A couple of silver-eared DJs from Miami picked up on the band and, as they say, the rest is history.

Produced by Brad Shapiro and Steve Alaimo and Supervised by Henry Stone. Arranged by The Zoo, vocal arrangements by Jack Sigler, Jr., engineer Ronnie Albert.
