Henry Stone On Syd Nathan from King Records and Joining DeLuxe Records

“I was building a little distributing company in about 1950 somthin’ after I recorded Ray Charles. And Syd Nathan from King Records had a brother down here who was a big doctor. Syd used to come down to Miami so much he practically lived here. He found out I was Henry Stone the record guy and we started to hang out, and he said to me one day, “Y’know you’re wasting your time with distribution. You should get into the manufacturing bidness with me. I have a little label called DeLuxe thats dormant right now. We’ll reactivate the label, you get 50% of the label, and we’ll get into manufacturing.”

I thought it was great idea. Cause that’s what I always wanted to do. That was my passion. To make records.”
